Crusoe students hosted by The Greater City of Bendigo

Date: Friday 28th August – Friday 1st September

Host: The Greater City of Bendigo

School: Crusoe College

Facilitator: Michael Burke

Grey Headed Flying Foxes (GHFF) arrived in the Rosalind Park fernery in 2010. During this time the public have had many opinions on the colony. The numbers fluctuate during the year and the animals have become quite comfortable in the fernery. There are horticultural and social impacts on the park and surrounding CBD area.

The student’s project was about understanding what information the public and tourists would like to see regarding the GHFF. Gathering information and finding a way to interpret that information for future use by council to better educate and inform.

The students conducted a survey and gathered information from as many sources as possible to gauge opinion on the subject of GHFF in Rosalind Park.

The students included in their presentation, recommendations on future interpretive signing and how to get information to tourists, public and schools nearby.  They even put together a brochure that could be used as a handout to the general public.
